Introduction to Cannabis Processing (3 Credits)

This course prepares students for work in the cannabis processing industry. The content focuses on specific knowledge and skill sets for employability in a variety of cannabis processing positions. Students will learn how to properly harvest, dry, trim, and cure raw plant material, as well as the various methods for refining cannabis.

Policies and Procedures:

Students must have permission from the instructor to enroll in this class to ensure that they have the necessary curricular and/or workforce qualifications and/or background. Students enrolled in this course may potentially qualify for internships with local cannabis businesses. Therefore, they must be 21+ years of age. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Program Coordinator. 

Outline of Major Topics:

This course will provide students with the knowledge that they need to develop specific skillsets to work in the cannabis processing industry:

• Industry standards for harvesting and drying cannabis
• Industry standards for trimming, including both manual and mechanical processes
• Proper curing techniques
• Various extraction methods

Additionally, students in this class will be required to submit a capstone project in the form of a resume and cover letter outlining skill sets learned in the microcredential. This capstone project is concurrent with the Introduction to Cannabis Cultivation course.

Modality:

This curriculum will be taught asynchronously, using the college’s LMS (Learning Management System). Students will need to access video content and readings to participate in a discussion board and complete assessments.  They will have access to the instructor via virtual meetings and email, as well as the program coordinator either on-campus or remotely.
