Columbia-Greene Community College welcomes latest class of graduate from Green Haven CF

41 graduates from Green Haven Correctional Facility earn A.A.S. in Individual Studies

HUDSON, N.Y. (June 5, 2025) – ColumbiaGreene Community College celebrated 41 students, presently at Green Haven Correctional Facility participating through SUNY’s Higher Education in Prison program, who graduated with their Associate of Applied Science in Individual Studies (A.A.S.)

The commencement ceremony took place at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville, N.Y.

ColumbiaGreene started its partnership with Hudson Link at Green Haven in 2022, offering educational opportunities to incarcerated individuals through degree programs administered by the college. Since the program started, ColumbiaGreene has graduated more than 100 students through the program.

“We are incredibly proud of the academic achievements of each of our students,” said Dr. Victoria L. Walsh, president of ColumbiaGreene Community College. “Our expanding and successful Prison Education Program speaks to one of our core missions as an institution – serving the community where they are.”

“Earning a college degree while incarcerated requires significant commitment and determination. These 41 graduates have invested in themselves, their futures, and their ability to contribute positively to their communities. Expanding access to higher education supports our mission of rehabilitation, prepares individuals for successful reentry, and helps build safer communities throughout the state. I congratulate each graduate on this well-earned accomplishment and thank our partners at ColumbiaGreene Community College, SUNY, and Hudson Link for their commitment to expanding educational opportunities for the individuals in our care,” said Daniel F. Martuscello III, commissioner, New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS).

ColumbiaGreene Community College works closely with the SUNY Office of Higher Education in Prison and Hudson Link. The partnership enables students to achieve their academic goals and receive support through re-entry programs.

In addition to Green Haven, ColumbiaGreene also administers the Higher Education in Prison program at Hudson Correctional Facility, Brookwood Secure Center, and Greene Correctional Facility.
