CATSKILL ROTARY ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP FUND HONORING ROGER LANE

Local Leader Served the Club and Community for More Than 50 Years

The Catskill Rotary Club recently approved establishing The Catskill Rotary Roger Lane Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Columbia-Greene Community College Foundation. Preserving the legacy of the late Roger Lane, one of the 100-year-old Club’s longest-serving members, the endowment will support students pursuing a career in nursing.

Rotary Club Secretary Mark Fingar presented a $15,000 check to Columbia-Greene’s President, Dr. Carlee Drummer, and commented, “The Catskill Rotary could not be more pleased to honor the man who devoted more than 50 years of his life to serving the Club and improving the lives of so many in our community.”

LouElla Denniston Lane, Roger’s wife of 47 years, expressed her deep appreciation to the Catskill Rotary for establishing this memorial, noting, “Roger had enormous respect for every nurse who took care of him over the years. He would be so honored to know that the Catskill Rotary established a nursing scholarship in his name at Columbia-Greene.”

Accepting the check, President Drummer, who is a member of the Catskill Rotary, extended her thanks to the Club for establishing an endowment that not only honors Roger Lane but also will provide financial support in perpetuity for Columbia-Greene students pursing a nursing degree. She stated, “At every Rotary Club meeting, Roger Lane praised the care he received from nurses who completed their training at Columbia-Greene.”

Lane, who proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ticonderoga from 1968 – 1972, worked at The Catskill Savings Bank for 35 years and then spent two decades as a substitute teacher for the Catskill Central School District. Long involved with The Town of Catskill Cemetery, he also served on the Catskill Village Board of Trustees as President in the 1970s.
