COLUMBIA-GREENE COMMUNITY COLLEGE ANNOUNCES TINY HOUSE AUCTION AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

HUDSON, NY — Columbia-Greene Community College’s Construction Technology program – a one-year comprehensive training certificate that prepares students for in-demand careers – is at the forefront of two initiatives that address significant housing and workforce issues in Columbia and Greene Counties.

The first initiative is the auction of two Tiny Houses built by the 2023-2024 Building Construction Technology graduates. Mounted on a towable chassis, each house measures 20’ (length) X 8’ (width) X 13’6” (height) and includes a fully outfitted kitchen, bathroom with shower, mini-split heating unit, sleeping loft, and much more. Each Tiny House incorporates eco-conscious construction practices, featuring energy-efficient solutions and space-maximizing designs. Funds raised by the auction will support the Building Construction Technology program.

Check out the two Tiny Houses currently displayed by the East and West entrances to the Route 23 campus in Hudson. The bidding site, photos, and specs for the Tiny Houses can be found at columbiagreene.edu/tinyhouse.

The second initiative, offered in partnership with The Spark of Hudson, is the availability of full-tuition scholarships for students entering the Columbia-Greene Construction Technology program in Fall 2024. The acclaimed one-year certificate not only provides students with a comprehensive understanding of construction, from framing to finishes, but also a highly trained workforce to local builders and retailers. “We are thrilled to announce these two remarkable initiatives,” said Dr. Carlee Drummer, President of Columbia-Greene Community College. “The Construction Technology program exemplifies the hands-on education and practical experience that Columbia-Greene programs offer, to prepare students for successful careers in growing industries.”

Andrew Soltano, the lead Building Construction Technology instructor, added, “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and the exceptional quality of craftsmanship demonstrated in these Tiny Houses. This program develops technical skills, creativity, and dedication to sustainable building practices.”
