Columbia-Greene Community College has been awarded funding through the SUNY High Needs Nursing Fund to enhance and expand simulation-based education within its nursing program. The award was announced by SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. as part of a statewide investment to strengthen nursing education and help address New York’s critical healthcare workforce shortage.
The funding will support Columbia-Greene’s efforts to modernize nursing instruction through advanced simulation technologies, including high-fidelity equipment and faculty training that provide students with immersive, hands-on clinical experiences. Simulation-based learning allows nursing students to practice real-world scenarios in a controlled environment, helping to better prepare them for today’s complex healthcare settings.
“SUNY is committed to investing in the success of New York State’s future healthcare workforce,” said SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. “The awards from this round of funding will help ensure our students receive the world-class education and training they deserve so they can thrive in their future careers in healthcare.”
Columbia-Greene is one of 30 SUNY campuses selected to receive funding for the 2025–2026 academic year. The initiative directly supports Governor Kathy Hochul’s goal of growing New York State’s healthcare workforce by 20 percent and builds on SUNY’s ongoing commitment to expanding nursing education opportunities across the state.
By enhancing simulation-based instruction, Columbia-Greene Community College continues to strengthen its nursing program while helping prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to serve local communities and the region.
