Transitioning from HS to College

Most students entering college will find many differences between high school and college. There will be a transition period. With careful planning and awareness of policies and procedures, students will enhance their chances of success.

It is important that a student with a disability understand his/her/their disability and its impact in the college setting. A student with a disability should also know the rights and responsibilities governing the educational setting  and be willing to take an active role in planning the transition to college. The OAS’s publication Transition from High School to College for Students with Disabilities (PDF) explains the differences between high school and college and provides information to help students with disabilities plan their transition (PDF document requires Adobe Reader version 10 or higher – get the latest Adobe Reader here – link to Adobe.com opens in new window).
